I never DNF books quickly, but this one had literally nothing going for it. In my notes while I was reading, I said that Joan is completely unlikable. I realize that’s the point, but it’s not very fun to spend your time with a character who basically has no choice but to face who she really is. Especially when there’s no real back story going into that. In addition, there were some pretty gross (and unnecessary) references to rape that were jarring. I also accidentally read spoilers when I was trying to gage whether or not to continue and that made me realize it’d be pointless for me to continue.
