The Fiery Cross by Diana Gabaldon

5.0

Slow, but the series needed a bit of a lull before the next big adventure. Definitely felt like a long tome of stage setting for future books. It would be unreasonable to expect every book in the series to be jam packed with excitement though. So beyond sick of Stephen Bonnet - and they still aren't sure if he's dead yet, so I suspect he will reappear in future books...ugh. Happy to see Young Ian back, am interested to hear about his time with the Indians, so hopefully that will be uncovered in the next book. All in all, I enjoyed it and will continue along with the series.

Re-Read 2&3/2021: Longest book of the series yet, but not much happens. There are a few firework events, the best being
Spoiler when Ian returns
! I kept waiting for this part of the story or that, only to realize it happens in a future book. I found again with the re-read that I picked up bits of the story I don't remember from before. There is some more of the romance here, but again not nearly as much as book 1, it has certainly faded. I enjoyed this book with all of its mundanity.
