Everything about this man's life is mind blowing.  It is foreign to me to understand the level of justification it takes to put oneself in the situations he did and believe he had done nothing really wrong and shouldn't receive a punishment, and yet I look at myself and my loved ones and see how it can happen. 

The author even helped me see a possible reason for the response of his mother. But I can't begin to imagine doing that myself. I tend to believe I would react like the second girlfriend did. 

The whole  thing is so very sad.
