I'm Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy
3.75
dark emotional sad fast-paced

So heart wrenching! I’m so glad she published her story. It resonated with certain parts of my life. While I am not a famous actor, I was able to relate and empathize with her experience with a narcissist mother, religion, and body image issues.

The reasons I am giving it 3.75 stars is because:
1. the end of the memoir seemed a little unresolved. The ending just felt like an incomplete journal entry, not really tying the experiences with a reflection or lesson learned to give the book closure.
2. The descriptions of the blowjobs were so well written they made me gag, lol. Then again, writing and describing things so well is an art, and I applaud her for that. If I could I would give it a 4.5 rather than 4 plain stars.
3. The other thing that I don’t really get is why people call it funny. Yes, she has a certain dark humor in her writing, but I didn’t laugh out loud or think it was hilarious. When it comes to comedy, to each their own, I guess.
