There are sections of this book that were tough to read; violent acts on children, for example. However, if this book had not included some of the legitimate crimes that occurred during this time period in Afghanistan and Pakistan, it would have been a stale storytelling. The writing is well-done, allowing you to feel the emotions along with the main character because you gain knowledge when he does. I appreciated the fact that the story had somewhat of a positive ending, but not a "big red bow" happy ending that would have felt forced and unrealistic.
