Heap House
by Edward Carey
This basically felt like a really dark children's story set in the dust-heaps of Dickens' Our Mutual Friend. I've loved Carey's work up until now, but this made me feel too claustrophobic or something. I don't deal well with this shade of gothic, I guess. I did like it, though, and I'll continue with the series. It's just not quite up my alley. (I'm having trouble imagining what kind of child's alley it'd be up as well?)
