I read a lot of YA, but I haven’t really read much in the Middle Grade category. I picked up Other Words for Home for the Reading Women Challenge in 2021 and I’m so glad the challenge helped me expand my reading habits. I absolutely loved this book!

The whole time I was reading this, I just kept thinking how amazing it would be for middle schoolers to read this book.

That age is a challenging time for everyone, let alone being a new kid at school, in a completely new country where nothing is familiar to you.

I can see this book being so many things to so many kids. Maybe it teaches them the tolerance that they don’t see an example of in their home. Maybe it lets them know that they are not alone. Maybe it gives them hope. It certainly gave me hope.

This book is beautifully written in verse, but is still very accessible for the young reader. I think Warga did a fabulous job, and I would recommend this for any school library!
