I had a rough time getting into it, mostly because I read a lot of British classics, and it's really difficult for me to find authors that handle that period in a skillful way. As I read on, though, I got better at suspending my disbelief, and was pleasantly surprised at the way the story developed. I was afraid after a particular scene that there would be a lot of smut, but it was refreshingly clean. The latter half reads very similarly to Howl's Moving Castle: lots of whimsey, magic, a little surrealism, and some great romance. It wasn't a life-changing read, but it was a fun time, and I'm glad I stuck with it.
