More sensitive readers: please read the content warnings. I went into this book knowing almost nothing about it, so I was quite surprised to see how central these situations were to the plot, so keep that in mind.
This book started slow for me, but once I cleared Book 2, I couldn’t put it down. The characters are complex, the tone is melancholy, and the love stories are sweet and terrible and tender. Also: lush descriptions of nature that reminded me of “Where the Crawdads Sing.”
It’s a beautiful book that has stuck with me days after finishing it.
