Sophie's Choice by William Styron
1.0

So here we have a) a hot Pole who just so happens to be an Auschwitz survivor; b) a schizophrenic drug abusing abuser; and c) a horny twenty-something who’s of course (OF COURSE) in love with the Pole.
The pole is of course super sex-obsessed. And hot. And is hit on pre-, during, and post-Auschwitz by men AND women. The reader is apparently supposed to pity her because she suffered so and because she’s super hot.
The drug-abusing guy is pretty convincing. Basically if your boyfriend beats the shit out of you on regular basis he will definitely kill you at the end of the book. Even if you’re hot.
The horny teen (he’s not a teen, but it sure feels like it) spends 10% of the book being horny and upset that nobody wants to fuck him and is basically a low-key incel. Another 10% is about how great his novel is gonna be. Also the Pole is super hot.
When finally about 600 pages into the book we learn what the “choice” was (the thing that actually gave the book its title and to which the tiniest bit of the book is devoted), the only possible reaction is “oh wow yeah that was totally unexpected yeah tell me more”. Also this is supposed to be super traumatic, and it’s the first time the hot Pole ever tells someone this story. This someone is of course the horny teen. And like three hours later she wakes him up to literally sick his dick.
Also this choice is completely unrelated to whatever’s previously described experience she had in Auschwitz.
Also have I mentioned the Pole is super hot?
Much disappointed so unfun
