So good!! Has been described as sapphic normal people, which I would say is a pretty good quick description. Howarth’s writing style is much more descriptive and poetic than Rooney’s, and the book delves much deeper into (Irish Catholic) religion and it’s impact on irish society and the queer experience. For lovers of contemporary irish lit, queer coming of age stories and dialogic epistolary novels (although the story is not an epistolary novel, letters play a central part).
Moderate: Religious bigotry, Lesbophobia
Minor: Emotional abuse, Infidelity, Misogyny, Sexism, Sexual content, Abortion, Death of parent, Outing, Classism
