Wish You Were Here by Jodi Picoult

2.0

I didn't care for this boring novel. I give it a scathing two stars. I thought I would like this book because usually, I enjoy modern chick lit.
The main character, Diana, was unlikeable throughout the entire book. She was one-dimensional, frustrating, clueless, and annoying. I think this book was trying to be some sort of homage to Covid victims or this time period, but like dude, we're still in it. It's not historical fiction. It's still real life. I don't want some moral lesson, character growth, or lesson at the end. I listened to this book while I was at home, with Covid. Thankfully I didn't go to an ICU or have any weird dreams.

The only parts I did enjoy were descriptions of the Galpagos island and Diana's unique job as an art buyer. Those two things were unique and interesting.

Unlike other reviewers, I didn't connect with the characters or find this book "hard to put down." I found it hard to pick up. I never cried, except maybe tears of joy when the book finally ended. I'd sign a DNR for this book: A "Do Not Read." (hey yo!)

I wouldn't recommend this book. I think if someone wanted to learn about "what it was like to live through Covid" they should read a different book or talk to someone IRL.
I read this for book club.
