This book was hard to get through because of all the feelings it invoked. You are forced to imagine a time when women had no rights, no voice and were subject to men’s whims. That (as hard as it is) is the precise reason we have to remember. Society’s past mistakes shouldn’t fade away or be forgotten so that we never allow ourselves to make them again. My heart aches to think of the torture, SA, pain, starvation and retaliation these innocent women faced. We have a voice and I hope we all choose to use it… if not for ourselves for all the voiceless that came before us.
