This one totally surprised me. I honestly just picked it up because the cover was gorgeous and when I saw it was actually written in the 1920s I thought, “Okay, this could be fun.” I wasn’t expecting to love it as much as I did. It really does feel like Sex and the City set in the Jazz Age (messy relationships, complicated friendships and a woman figuring out who she is in a world that doesn’t make it easy). And even though it was written 100 years ago, so much of it still feels weirdly relatable. Ursula Parrott writes about love, divorce and independence in such a sharp and honest way that you almost forget how old this book actually is. It’s witty, a little glamorous, a little sad at times and way more modern than I ever expected. It also reminded me a bit of The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, so if you enjoyed that I think you’d love this too.
