The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon

5.0

Tbh, the length of this book was daunting but I quickly found myself submerged within the world Shannon created that it really did fly by. The books has such a diverse cast and a world that never felt intimidating or too complex, which was perfect for me who doesn't venture into fantasy too often. But this book really does have it all.

Dragons! Magic! Pirates! Exiled alchemists! Queens protected by their lady-in-waiting! All types of romance! I am honestly still blown away by it all. The characters are truly memorable and I couldn't stop wanting to know more. Even when a character seemed unlikeable, they went and redeemed them in a way that I was glad it happened. I even cried a little for one of the most minor characters. Truly spectacular.

My only reservation was the slow-burn. It wasn't as slow or as burning as I'd like but it made sense because that romance wasn't a major plot point. So even if the ending was a little disappointing, it ended in a good and happy place for me.
