My general thought while reading this was "yup, this was definitely from 2013". Take that as you will. Don't get me wrong, this is definitely not a bad read. The story was well written and I was satisfied with the pacing of the plot. I guess I just felt like it lacked the punch I was expecting from it (I really have to manage my expectations when it comes to my chosen readings lol).
I appreciated journeying with Alayna's thoughts as she faced her past demons while growing into her romantic feelings with Hudson. I think I would have loved this more if it was written in dual POV, though. I really wanted to know what Hudson was thinking the entire time given his own issues.
Overall, I found this read quite average. But I am absolutely inclined to read the rest of the trilogy.
