3.5

A slow burn, sentimental novel that lures you in with its fascinating premise. Although the first half of the book dragged and much of the character writing fell flat, the last two chapters were emotional, even powerful. Quietly seeping through to the end is the book’s contemplation of lingering regret and enduring love, bolstered by its ensemble cast of characters and drip-fed world-building.
