A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman
5.0
Oh man. This book! It is definitely one of my favorites of the year.
For those who don't know. A Man Called Ove is about a curmudgeonly old man who is pretty set in his ways. He likes things to be just so and gets mad when people don't follow the rules. As the book goes on we learn about how Ove became the way he is. He completely grew on me and I just couldn't get enough. I laughed at some of his antics with the people in his neighborhood, especially the blond woman and her dog. I LOVED his neighbor Parvaneh, "the pregnant one", who didn't put up with Ove's crap. She called him out, got in his space and refused to allow him to isolate himself.
Backman's writing brought so many emotions out of me and I fell in love with this story, with Ove and this community of people. The end didn't quite take me by surprise, but it had me in tears for sure. Beautifully done, Mr. Backman, beautifully done.
