One Baby Daddy
by Meghan Quinn
Very entertaining and riveting, if somewhat frustrating. Hayden is a great character, a pro hockey player, ripped and gorgeous, but more than that, a gentleman with tender feelings. He’s not a player, but more of a homebody. When he meets Adalyn at his childhood town, he’s struck by her feistiness and great humor. He says it was like a punch to his heart.
Adalyn is one of those cautious women, who was hurt in a previous fling and is now wary of relations. She only has one-night stands, prefers to have short flings than a serious relation. As she and Hayden start texting, dating and chatting, she’s very attracted but still very hesitant. His constant attentions made her fall in love with him and at first, she was very feisty. But then, when Hayden is drafted, she lets him go because she doesn’t believe the relation will survive the long distance. She suddenly turned scaredy-cat!
Later she finds she’s pregnant, but withholds the information from Hayden and lets her friend Logan take over the role of caretaker. The same guy who hurt her in the past. I could understand not wanting to take a risk with a long-distance relationship, but on this she turned selfish and cruel. I started disliking her at this point.
I found Adalyn tiresome. She’s one of those persons who will not take any risks and will rather suffer heartbreak than trust a person who has been steadfast and truthful. Then she goes and relies on the one person who hurt her in the past. Clearly, she has bad instincts, and makes bad decisions; you can tell how smarmy Logan is from the start. She was also stubborn, since her good friends were insisting she call Hayden and she refused. I couldn’t believe she was so deluded and let herself be manipulated by Logan.
There were some great parts in the book, dialogues were heartfelt, the texting between Hayden and Adalyn was funny and entertaining, and Hayden was one heck of a guy. Adalyn was not remarkable; she loved Hayden but didn’t have the guts to go after her heart. She hurt Hayden any times; she didn’t deserve such an outstanding guy!
