A refreshing take on an old tale

I've been wanting to read this book ever since I heard about it. I unfortunately had to push it back a bit, but I'm glad I finally got to it!

This is a retelling of Carrie, where it's actually Maddy, a biracial girl with the same telekinetic powers. It's a great twist on the classic story and brings an important perspective to the tale. It really does a good job of bringing the racial tensions of the rural South to the forefront, highlighting practices that are still happening to this day.

I think my favorite thing in this book is actually all the story breaks framing everything. I really loved the podcast parts especially. I think they bring a nice commentary on what happened, and who is really to blame.

Overall I liked this book. It's a solid retelling, and even though I'm not the biggest fan of all of the writing style, it was enjoyable and was definitely worth the read.
