Uphill: A Memoir by Jemele Hill

informative inspiring reflective medium-paced

5.0

I only knew of Jemele Hill from the viral tweets regarding Donald Trump back in 2017. ESPN wasn't something I watch or follow so she wasn't someone I had ever heard about until then. When I saw that she had written a memoir I was very interested to learn more about her. This book includes an open and honest look at her childhood and nothing was sugar coated. I never annotate books but with this one I marked several passages because they really hit home for me. We follow her through her tumultuous childhood until she leaves ESPN and it was an incredible journey. She is so inspiring and I was rooting for her all along the way.

**There were a lot of names of sports journalists and on air personalities that I have never heard of but it didn't detract from my enjoyment of the story. If you are familiar with sports journalism and/or ESPN personalities you may get a little more from the stories of her time there.
