Rebel Skies by Ann Sei Lin

4.0

I loved how much the ofuda and shikigami reminded me of one of my all time favorite movies 'Kubo and the Two Strings'. And this reminded me a lot of the world of Mortal Engines (a little less steampunk though) and for some reason Star Wars. I'll admit it was really weird for me to discover that Kurara is a shikigami (note that this is a spoiler so do not search up what shikigami is if you haven't read the book) (once you read the book you will know). And I liked how she was plucky and stood up a bit too foolishly for Akame and other shikigami because that's what was right.
SpoilerAnd like the fortune teller I am, I somehow knew that Rei is Tomoe's father with no hesitation and I still love Tomoe for being so...Tomoe.
Sayo is also one of my fav characters. It was an enjoyable read but I only give 5 stars to something that I would reread again for sure. For anyone who liked this, I would suggest [b:Cogheart|29939780|Cogheart (The Cogheart Adventures, #1)|Peter Bunzl|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1493721471l/29939780._SY75_.jpg|50330331] and [b:Malamander|43132607|Malamander (The Legends of Eerie-on-Sea, #1)|Thomas Taylor|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1546787692l/43132607._SY75_.jpg|66935969].
