A Shot of Pretty Poison
by Kelsey Clayton
Holy fucking shit. This book is heartbreaking. Obviously it’s a HEA but oh my god did it rip my heart out of my chest during the middle.
My thoughts while reading: (spoilers)
The way he tapped his leg at the bonfire had me smiling so big.
I loved that the name of the drink was “pretty poison” really tying it together.
I KNEW IT WASNT ISAAC! THAT WAS WAY TOO EASY!
Holy shit! They buried her alive! Oh my god! But I really don’t understand why she has such a vendetta?
WHO IS THE RING LEADER??!?
FUCKING MONTY IS ALIVE?!?!?!? HOW! WHY?!
I can’t believe Monty had a sister.
Kindle highlights:
NOTE • PAGE 8
Dude what the fuck. She just leaves? For that long?!?
HIGHLIGHT • PAGE 29
"The difference between him and me is that he left his family. Mine left me.
HIGHLIGHT • PAGE 90
"Ten minutes?" he asks, and I nod.
"see,
that's where we differ. You only need ten minutes with me, but I needed the rest of my life with you."
HIGHLIGHT • PAGE 129
"I thought Hayes doesn't do commitment," Riley murmurs. Mali hums amusedly. "He did for her.
Note: fuck you, you’re psychotic.
HIGHLIGHT • PAGE 132
"There's a part of me that still loves you," I say honestly. "There's always going to be a part of me that still loves you. But right now, there's a part of me that wants to hate you, and I'm not sure which is stronger." She sniffles, wiping away her tears and nodding. "I get that. I do."I get up from the table and put my fist on it. "Just do me a favor?"
"Anything," she replies, and I know she means that. "Don't go anywhere until I figure it out."
HIGHLIGHT • PAGE 133
"So, that's her, huh?" she asks. "The girl who made it so you don't believe in love anymore?"
HIGHLIGHT • PAGE 133
"I believe in love," I say simply. "I just don't believe in it with anyone but her."
HIGHLIGHT • PAGE 134
Laiken was always my happily ever after. It just didn't end happily.
HIGHLIGHT • PAGE 188
"I don't hate you, baby," I whisper. "I just hate that I wasn't enough."
HIGHLIGHT • PAGE 265
"I always fucking want to be called when it comes to her!" I roar.
HIGHLIGHT • PAGE 300
"Your father's biggest love was the bottle," she says. "But Laiken's is you."
HIGHLIGHT • PAGE 302
I won't lie, it scares the shit out of me, but sometimes the best things are the ones you're most afraid of.
HIGHLIGHT • PAGE 303
And just like that, I'm the same twenty-year-old that fell head over heels for the girl who broke all my damn rules like they never applied to her in the first place.
HIGHLIGHT• PAGE 307
She's still mine. Only ever mine.
HIGHLIGHT • PAGE 319
"Man, really? I specifically ordered the ones with the loyalty feature on them!
Those lying bitches."
HIGHLIGHT • PAGE 329
Because that's what she's been for me--a pretty poison.
HIGHLIGHT • PAGE 334
"What the fuck are you doing in here?
Playing musical clothes?"
HIGHLIGHT • PAGE 353
If I have gray hairs, it's because I married half of this generation's Thelma and Louise.
HIGHLIGHT • PAGE 388
"Please, God," I beg as the tears start to fall. "Please don't take her from me. Give her back. I just want her back."
HIGHLIGHT • PAGE 400
“You've turned me into a fucking sex-addicted monster." He smirks, bouncing his brows excitedly. "I know. It's the second best thing I've ever done." "What was the first?" "Marrying you."
HIGHLIGHT • PAGE 416
"You left a piece of you there that night,"
I tell her. "It's time we go get it back."
Epilogue
HIGHLIGHT • PAGE 441
I will spend the rest of my life being incomprehensibly in love with her. And if there's a life after this one, I'll go to the ends of the earth to find her again, because her soul and mine are two halves of a whole. There's no me without her.
