A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J. Maas

3.0

This wavers somewhere between a 3 and a 4, so I landed on a 3. So many things were AMAZING: the trio of Valkyrie ladies, the Rite, Nesta discovering her magic and the Trove/accidentally making magic swords, the agony of Feyre/Rhys/the baby. And so many things fell short: Eris felt underdeveloped and I didn’t get his storyline at all really, the conflict of Briallyn/Koschei suddenly popping up out of nowhere (felt very contrived after just having beat the King of Hybern and whatnot), and just way too much sex for the first two thirds of the book that did absolutely nothing for the plot.

I can deal with sex in a book when it feels purposeful, when it’s showing character/relationship development or something. But literally the first 60% of Nesta + Cassian sex scenes were unnecessary.

The last 30% of the book saved it and push it closer to 4 stars. I’m glad I finished it, but it will probably be the only ACOTAR book I never re-read.
