I have been wanting to read James by Percival Everett, so I picked up The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn for some context. Unbeknownst to me, that is the second book to this one. I had no interest in reading this one but it was a pleasant surprise to find out I enjoyed my time with this book.
Tom Sawyer is a charismatic kid that would often make me laugh. I enjoyed getting a peek into what life was like for (white) people. The racism was expected but still shocking and I’m bracing myself for Huckleberry Finn.
Mark Twain did a great job making me feel nostalgic for youth adventures. His writing is fantastic though the back-and-forth dialogue was confusing and the switch between first, second, and third person was jarring. Overall, a positive experience.
