Trigger warnings: homophobia, misogyny, death,
Spoilerabortion, miscarriage

HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE follows Amber McCloud, a cheerleader hoping to earn the title of captain at the end of the school year. She’s in the closet, even to some of her oldest friends, and she just needs to keep it that way one more year. However, the arrival of new girl quarterback Jack Walsh throws a wrench in her plans. Amber has to decide to follow her dreams or her heart.

I read this whole book in basically one sitting, that’s how engaged I was! I needed something lighter after IRON WIDOW and decided to give this new release a try; it did not disappoint! It is not as fluffy as expected, the characters deal with homophobia and misogyny throughout, but it was sweet and heartwarming in all the right moments. It was the perfect contemporary romance. Enough escapism to make me grin but grounded in the reality of our world and how it can be toward queer teens. Highly recommend!
