This is a very dark fantasy romance. Lots of dark themes are covered in this, and the characters are (understandably) traumatized. Please check triggers before going in, as things get very graphic in this. Especially with the villain that haunts our FMC. That being said, I think things were written very well when the story was covering non-romance aspects. The adventure, the trauma, the villains were all really well done. I felt like the romance was sometimes just thrown in, and it sometimes took me out of the story or felt our of place. I didn't feel like there was a lot of chemistry between the characters and felt like the spice was sometimes inappropriate or just put in there to be there. Overall, this was an interesting read and I could maybe see myself continuing. Loved the magic and how the rules of the magic were built up.
