lukadu 's review for:
The Murmur of Bees
by Sofía Segovia
It took me a long time to read this book, not because it wasn’t good or difficult but more because I was not in the right state of mind. My own distraction took away my dedication but nevertheless I know I hold a treasure of a book in my hands. Beautifully written, I wished I had read it in Spanish, it’s original language and mine, but the translation was excellent. This book tells a story of a pandemic very similar to what’s going on in the world right now, but besides that it is also full of political and social commentary about the Mexican Revolution and it also carries with it the fantasy aspect of magical realism so common and wonderful of the latin american culture. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in historical fiction, lyric language and magical realism.
