Read this book. Devour it. Inhale it. It is a masterpiece and incredibly, heartbreakingly sad.

It is not a fantasy in the traditional sense; don’t expect dragons and sea monsters. But it is fantastical, as is the reality, because simply how could all this be true?

It is mysterious and a little twisty, and it is about
intimate partner violence and the way it cannot be contained within the walls of a home; it is tethered to the victim, and the menagerie of stories and of nameless women pile up throughout the story to create a patchwork of repetition and bitter acceptance - ‘that’s just how the world works.’
It’s a story about victims, the bonds women have, the promises they keep - and the way some of us inevitably become prisoner to vicious monsters in their gothic mansions.
