I really liked the first book and I’m happy to say that I liked this one even better. I loved seeing all of the characters respond to what happened in the first book and how they had to deal with all of the grief, trauma and consequences of what Dara did. By the end of this book I felt like I personally knew all of the characters. I loved watching Nahri grow and come into her own as the Banu Nahida, all the while plotting against the Qahtanis. I adored Ali in the first book and I loved him even more here. I love his idealism and hope and how he so genuinely cares about the people he loves, but also how prideful and stubborn he is. I also felt like I got to get to know a lot of the side characters more like Jamshid and Zaynab and I enjoyed every scene they were in. The last third of the book was so heart-wrenching, everyone had to make such difficult choices and no one really won in the end, I’m looking forward to how this series resolves.
