In Some Other Life by Jessica Brody

2.0

While the concept isn't super original, it's one that I liked; what would your life be like if you made a different choice? Kennedy choose to ignore her acceptance to the prestigious Windsor Academy and stay at the public high school to continue dating Austin. And now in her senior year they're still together, but then she finds him making out with her best-friend and she questions it all. She finds herself, slightly hysterical, at Windsor Academy begging for a spot when she hits her head and wakes up as Windsor Academy super student Kennedy 'Crusher' Rhodes. Finally getting the chance to live out her academic dream she begins to discover that her first choice might not have been so bad after all.

I was bored. I didn't like Kennedy (I was actually kind of happy for Austin and her best-friend Laney, she wasn't very good to either of them, not horrible, just rather self involved) and couldn't find her obsession with Windsor Academy believable. Sure she had some regrets, but it's still just a school. Also, I know we were working a little with a parallel universe theory and not just a simple what if sequence, but everything else is essentially the same, just different outcomes based on her decision to go to Windsor Academy, but all the sudden she goes from someone who prefers jeans and t-shirts and nothing pink and sparkly (seriously used as a defining characteristic for her several times) to a person who wears skirts and has a pink sparkly phone case. Was her personality really based that much on who she became friends with? She couldn't have been top of her class at Windsor and still wear jeans and t-shirts on the weekend?

I just didn't care if she got stuck in her new world, even if it all was on the verge of imploding.
SpoilerAlso, when she did return to her original life she never even considers that other world Kennedy could have been acting in her shoes and what might have happened while she was gone. She just slipped in a month later like she never left. Who was being her while she was gone? The other Kennedy went back to a life where she had dropped out of Windsor and admitted to being the mastermind behind a cheating scandal. But this girl did nothing but let the original Kennedy's life play placidly out, while observing (and knew to ignore Laney and Austin?). Really?
