What a fun read.

So, I read this book because I'm feeling kind of down. The world is on fire. I feel utterly useless on most days. My rigorous (some may say obsessive) exercise routine is keeping me sane. However, my research and creative work takes an emotional book. So I decided to take a break from Freshwater to read this. I was like, hey, enough imperialism, colonialism, slavery, trauma, and pain. Let's read something fun!

And then this book opens in a slave salt mine with a character being tortured and captive by the imperialist ruler. Lololol. Joke's on me! Okay, so I wasn't planning for all the trauma and pain, BUT what makes this refreshing is that our protagonist is fighting the power. She is resilient and strong because she's young and not weighed down by the thought of calling the federal government for health insurance assistance. No because she's badass (and because its a feudal era so health insurance isn't a thing).

This book is empowering. I'm thrilled to have been peer pressured to read it. Thank you, Ashely. Love ya.
