This was such a compelling story — I can’t even fully express by thoughts here. Framing the book with the stories of the 7 pilgrims makes for a unique array of genres and themes all contained within one story. Each story was a page turner that left me with more questions about the Hyperion Cantons. That being said — there were some thing I felt could have been better explained — some of the sci of the sci-fi went over my head at times & there were lots of abbreviations that weren’t clearly explained until way later in the book. But even these complaints work to make you feel like you’ve been dropped into a legitimate universe that’s moved on from present day without you.

Ending the book with a reference to the Wizard of Oz was PERFECTION. Literally 2 pages before that reference I said to myself that it felt very much like a sci-fi Wizard of Oz
