I liked this book, and I think sort of knowing the author made it better for me, but in my opinion the plot left something to be desired. This book didn't seem to go anywhere, and so I read it fast mostly because it was an easy read, and less because I was really drawn into it. The characters are pretty simple and mostly likeable, but I didn't feel very connected to them

even so, what the heck Shelbi? Killing off one of the main characters?

. I will probably finish the series because McFaul likes it, and also because I want to see it get better. Maybe if it was fantasy instead of science-fiction I would have liked it better.
