The Passage by Justin Cronin

3.0

A promising start to the trilogy but the action is often interrupted by long and tedious sections, so much so that I almost gave up more than once. This could have been a really good action adventure but it felt like the author wanted it to be more literary, hence the many wordy sections. The tone was very biblical in parts (“He was one of the Twelve and also the Other…He was the night of the nights…”) and story wise too there were biblical themes (a messiah of sorts is born to someone ordinary, man is wiped out due to his sins and a few have to rebuild the world). All in all it was interesting enough, and after 750 pages I feel committed enough to the story, the characters, and their challenges, that I would read the rest of the trilogy.
