He Gets That From Me by Jacqueline Friedland
medium-paced
- Loveable characters? It's complicated
2.0
I really wanted to like this book. It was an interesting premise! But the execution fell too short of the mark.
The characters were predictable, and the way the straight (I assume - she has a husband) white female author writes the queer male characters is just...they feel like tropes. I had hoped the book never would lean in to the ethical ambiguity the plot presents, but overall it just lacks nuance.
and somehoweven though there's a big thing about the best interests of the child, no one thinks to maybe involve a therapist in this? Even though the dad says he's had plenty of therapy??? What???? I thought from the title there would at least be some really interesting nature vs nurture points explored but...not really.
