Můj život u sousedů by Huntley Fitzpatrick

I really enjoyed this book. The writing was much more mature than other YA reads, because the characters were 17 and appreciated that Samantha was not filled with teen angst. It felt very realistic in the things surrounding the big drama. I don't want to give too much away, but having a best friend that has lost his way, not knowing that you've been competing with your best girlfriend your entire life, having to prove that you are not your family are all very real themes that I think were presented very well.

George is the best character, in my opinion. The book is worth reading just to get glimpses of little George and his crippling anxiety. Jase was a little too perfect as leading men in YA books tend to be; I never find leading men to be very realistic in these books, but that's part of the fun of reading them. The ending twist was resolved in 80 pages and I felt that Jase was very quick to forgive. That's what makes him too perfect. He can so easily separate Samantha from her mother. It just seems a little impractical.

Their love story was so sweet and was very accurate when it comes to how your first love feels and what falling in love when you're on the cusp of adulthood is like. I appreciated that. Samantha wasn't in over her head and she didn't lose herself in Jase she kept her head on straight and fell in love with Jase and being a part of a real family.
