The Witch and the Vampire
by Francesca Flores
I was so happy to receive this book as an ARC from a Goodreads giveaway, especially given how beautiful the cover is, the promise of a queer Rapunzel story, and witches and vampires!
The story follows Ava, who has been trapped in a tower after being turned into a vampire, and her former friend Kaye, a Flame witch. They are reunited after years of separation but at odds: Ava is fleeing captivity, and Kaye is hunting down vampires.
It's an exciting premise, though there was much less romance than I expected. Some might call it a slow burn, but there was very little romantic tension throughout the story. Ava and Kaye's motivations often changed swiftly without any new information, and I found it difficult to become fully immersed in the story.
I think this book might be best suited for a middle grade to young adult audience given the PG romance.
