The Beauty in Breaking by Michele Harper

emotional hopeful inspiring reflective medium-paced

4.0

This is the first book from my adventure with the non-fiction genre: memoirs from an ER doctor who narrates not only her own hardships growing up and well into adulthood, but also those of her patients and shows readers, just like the title says, the beauty in breaking. Many of the cases Harper describes are absolutely heartbreaking, but others are incredibly inspiring, and hearing about what these people have gone through and how they have gathered strength and courage to get better is so encouraging. This book centers around self-love and acceptance and the message really resonated with me as I was reading and it still does now. The use of medical terms was a bit confusing at times, but a quick google search cleared almost all doubts, and medical knowledge is not necessarily needed to understand the book or it’s overall message. Truly, I hope everyone else that reads this book feels as motivated as I have.
