The Christmas Pearl by Dorothea Benton Frank

hopeful reflective fast-paced

5.0

This was the perfect little Christmas story. I absolutely loved that the protagonist was 93. I liked the nostalgic element as she remembered what Christmas was like when she was younger and how much things have changed. I really loved the supernatural aspect and how the author used magic realism. It really made the growth and changes in the characters over the two days much more palatable and easier to believe. I still didn't love the family, but them coming together had that heartwarming element that I really enjoy in Christmas stories. I loved how pearls were interwoven throughout the story. It was a really nice touch. The only thing that was a bit disappointing was that the author never let us know what happened with Eliza. Yes, it was hinted at early on, but I would have loved an update on that in the end. Even so, that was a very minor thing, and I really loved the story itself.
