This book was very different to Warcross and, unfortunately, not in a good way. I found that there was a lack of much character development and an abandonment of previously fun, better developed characters with a higher focus on plot.
This book takes the series from a fun, competition-based story into a world of action, conspiracies and secret corporations and I kind of didn’t like that. Perhaps it was just a little too off-course for my liking, but this book felt quite far removed from the previous story and almost a little disjointed. At one point, this actually reminded me of the film Inception too.
Overall, I did enjoy this book and found it a good read, but it just didn’t stand up to the first in the series in terms of fun and character development.
