This book subverted my expectations. It's written kind of weirdly but I liked it. I ended up getting sucked into the mystery of it all pretty quickly. I guessed the ending fairly early on but it would be pretty shocking if you weren't expecting it. This book is best read not knowing much about it.
Things I Liked:
Things I Liked:
- I love how the characters and story are revealed slowly to allow tension and mystery to build!
- I love how hints to the ending are scattered throughout the story.
- I loved the setting. I wanted more. I could have read about every summer on the island and would have loved it.
Things I Didn't Like:
- The whole amnesia aspect felt like a weird plot device. I didn't hate it because it definitely let the tension build but I'm not sure it really makes a lot of sense.
Moderate: Animal death, Child death, Death, Cursing, Drug use, Fire/Fire injury, Grief, Mental illness, Racism, and Classism
