Truly captivating from the very beginning. I felt pulled through the prose in a dream like trace. This is my 3rd LaCour book and every single one of them have that dream like quality. It’s so hard to actually explain the feeling you have when you’re reading one of her books, but I love it.
In Watch Over Me we follow Mila, a young woman who has aged out of the foster care system take a teaching and living position on an isolated farm on the northern California coast. Some of themes explored are: chosen family, loneliness, self-discovery, healing from past trauma, and learning to accept love. It’s a hauntingly beautiful ghost story told in a unique way that may not suit the masses but worked for me really well.
