Court of Monsters and Malice
by Eliza Raine
I don’t really know how I feel about the slow burn in this book. I didn’t really feel as much a connection to the MCs as the other books. The “third act breakup” was something I didn’t know I actually liked until this book. It didn’t seem like they were both very good at saying “sorry” at first. Homegirl was trying to get some and he was really denying her at first. They even threw in a ball room scene with no dancing this time (although we know why according to the first book) but those scenes are always what I look forward to and it just did not pull through for me. The slow burn is still going strong and this is the third book already! It’s agitatingly grinding my nerves each time I think something is going to happen. I understand why it doesn’t because of Maz’s gold runes but it would be so exhilarating if he was like “screw this!” And just does what his heart desires anyways. The trials or games they put Reyna through really wasn’t clever and I felt like this book was just a big filler. The plot was little chaotic, some grammar errors that doesn’t bother me but I knew they were there. The cliff hanger had my jaw hitting the floor though! I’m so looking forward to the next book.
