Yes, this is listed as a contemporary romance. And yes there is a fairly decent romance here. The two leads genuinely feel like they love each other. I like them both together. I enjoyed their journey to come together.
The Heart Principle as a whole, however, is much more a story about mental illness, grief, family, and learning to stand up for yourself. It was far heavier a read than I was in the mood for and that definitely colors my rating. I just want a fun fluffy romance that won't give me secondhand trauma!
CW as follows:
emotional manipulation, gaslighting, death of a loved one, hospice care, suicidal ideation, depression and anxiety, ableism
