I keep hearing good things about this author, so picked up this one from Amazon. Switching back and forth between audiobook and e-book, I was able to read this one quickly over the course of a couple of days. I’ll admit now, listening to this audiobook when I was having trouble sleeping probably wasn’t the best idea I’ve had. If you love spooky reads this one might be for you!
The story follows the Winter family, Jack, his wife Aimee and their two children, Abby and Charlie. After a horrifying car accident, they notice changes in Charlie’s behaviour. As things begin to get creepier and creepier, the family is left to wonder if something more sinister is going on, and what big secret is Jack hiding.
The atmosphere of this book is tense, the author really knows how to build suspense. I enjoyed the differing narrators/POV between the family members. The subject matter was quite dark and unsettling (in a good way). The ending really brought everything together building up the anticipation and apprehension for the whole book. The ending literally had me gasping out loud. I did not see that coming.
Overall, this was a really engrossing, fun to read story which might just keep you up at night. If you are a fan of creepy kids, possession, paranormal or demonic stories, I’d give this one a try, you might just find a new favorite author. I will be looking for more books by Ania Ahlborn to add to my reading list.
