Solnit's early experiences as a writer present an eclectic mix of the California art scene, the American West, and what it means to be a woman taking up space in the world, insisting on a right to safety, to credibility, to belonging in a myriad of spaces that are often deemed to be "risky" or "unsafe." Inspired passages filled with love of words and language.
