nikitaaa 's review for:
Her Royal Highness
by Rachel Hawkins
i was excited to read her royal highness. something quick, fun, and cute to read. but i found it to be not that great.
i didn't like or care for any of the characters. the main character was flat, and the love interest was unconvincing in the mean-then-nice arc she was given.
the relationship came out of nowhere, with hardly any real development made to get them from enemies to the relationship stage. it really felt like the two characters were put together for the sake of them being together, which i know is obviously not how it was written, but it really did seem like that. there was no chemistry, no reason for me to root for them.
the climax and resolution were the most lacking parts of the book. an issue was made from nothing, then almost immediately a resolution that was could have been done so much better. it was solved in a page, gave no room for a real conversation between the two characters, and was unconvincing. this whole section of the book felt like "stupid issue comes up, a bit of talking and advice from characters, apologetic gesture, literally immediate forgiveness, then book just finishes." what just happened? it was completely unsatisfying. it didn't give me the greatest lasting impression of the book either, which is why i didn't rate it highly.
