Pleasure Activism: The Politics of Feeling Good by adrienne maree brown
5.0
Pleasure Activism: The Politics of Feeling Good was a true pleasure to read. I listened to the audiobook and it was a treat, with song & grounding music breaking up parts of the book.
If you’re considering picking up this book, know that it is heavily about sex! There are a few later chapters on drug use, and it may challenge your personal beliefs. I enjoyed having a different perspective on pleasure and sensuality, but I recognize that this isn’t for everyone.
Growing up in purity culture, this book was a healing read for me. In my early years of deconstruction, I began questioning everything — some taboo topics were triggering, others were liberating to learn more about. This book has a balance of both!
In a way, Pleasure Activism gives you permission to explore & play in your day-to-day lives. For those who are deconstructing what they’ve been taught to believe, this can be incredibly impactful. I want my days to be spent in love, connection, and creation, just as the author states near the end of the book.
One of my favorite quotes is a simple one: “Pleasure reminds us to enjoy being alive.”
