Ready Player One
by Ernest Cline
I absolutely loved this book. It is a genuine page-turner and I struggled to put it down.
I think I loved this book because I had read so many novels where no action actually happens. Ready Player One, which is packed full of action and adventure, came as a welcome surprise. This is a well-told story. Wade Watts is a solid 'everyman' type protagonist, Art3mis is a compelling, dynamic love-interest and they form a team of underdogs and take on their big bad, the IOI. This story could easily have been mediocre, but Cline puts such a refreshing spin on this journey it can't help make a great novel.
The book has flaws, yes, but the fantastic pacing of the book and the intense focus on the main characters makes the flaws easy to forgive.
